中央宣传部文艺局携手文化和旅游部艺术司, announces a 2026 top-quality sub-plot opera show will take place in Beijing between July and August. This initiative selects nationwide opera masterpieces, focusing on sub-plot opera as the carrier to reveal the achievements of carrying forward this essence of traditional Chinese arts.

The selected 81 pieces cover wide-ranging opera forms, including both widely popular ones like Peking Opera, Kunqu Opera, Yue Opera, Huangmei Opera, and Yu Opera, and rare types such as Silian, Wu'an Luozzi, Shangdang Bangzi, and Gan Nan Chaixi. They concentrate on the preservation, inheritance, and promotion of traditional opera classics, vividly displaying the diverse ecosystem and profound heritage of China's opera garden. All performances are led by the best opera artists from various troupes, showcasing the unique vocal styles, performance patterns, and stage aesthetics of each genre.
The show will run from July 17th to August 12th in Beijing Chang'an Grand Theatre and Mei Lanfang Grand Theatre. The 81 pieces will be arranged into 20 special programs, giving Beijing audiences a satisfying opera feast. Live broadcasts will start on certain platforms, spreading high-quality opera culture to more viewers.
A spokesperson for the organizers noted that this performance is a key action to implement the "Three-Year Action Plan for Drama Revitalization (2026-2028)." Its purpose is to further promote the inheritance of excellent traditional drama classics, helping the key preservation plays improve and perform better.
